I was pretty excited when Tibeca over at Sewing by Ti asked if I wanted to join in her Watcha Wearin’ January blog tour. Since the weather’s been so drab, I’ve been feeling pretty uninspired about sewing and thought this would be the kick in the pants I needed to get back to my machines and fabric. Plus, the tour includes a pretty fabulous giveaway that EYMM is helping sponsor! I’m sad I can’t win, but you should make sure to read all the way to the bottom and enter to win through the Rafflecopter!
Once the excitement of Christmas is over, I usually spend January hiding from the cold weather and snuggling with my kids and taking it easy. I’ve been thinking for a while that I’d like to have an over-sized “boyfriend” tee to wear on cozy days. However, finding an oversized tee to buy is a challenge considering I wear bigger sizes already. Good thing I know how to sew! I decided to take Parker’s Vintage Fit T-shirt for Men and make one for me!!
I took my measurements and compared them to the men’s size chart. I decided to start with my bust size at the top and grade out the bottom (since my hips are a bigger size) rather than using the almost straight side seams included in the men’s pattern. If I hadn’t graded sizes, I would have had to use a bigger size in order for the hem to fit around my hips and I thought I would be risking it fitting too loose at my bust to look cute.
Because men’s shoulders are generally broader than women’s, I figured that even though I chose the size corresponding to my bust/chest size the shoulder seam would still hang off my shoulder … and that was the “oversized” feeling I was aiming for. My calculations were correct and I ended up with the perfect “boyfriend” tee for lounging around on cold winter days.
I am digging how my “boyfriend” Parker’s Vintage Fit T-shirt for Men fits … though I’m still looking forward to Kymy finishing up the women’s version!!
If you sew up any EYMM patterns to share in the Watcha Wearin’ January linky (or any time!) and have any questions or want to show it off, we’d love to see you post in the EYMM Facebook group or on the EYMM Facebook page.
Happy Sewing!! ~ Joelle

Way to get creative. Nothing like giving a pattern new life as another use.

Yes! It surely helps to stretch the “pattern dollars.” 😉

I admire your ability to figure out what adjustments to make to get the fit you need to make a garment that works so well. But I really had to tell you how much I love your haircut! It’s adorable. You look terrific!
