If you were following my blog back in Feb. you probably saw the Birthday dresses I made for my nieces. The youngest got hers on her first birthday which was that month. Being the sucker of an auntie that I am I gave in & gave the 2.5 year old her princess dress early.
Well her birthday is in 6 weeks so I needed to make her something else for a gift. Lucky her, when things turn out to big for the twins guess who gets them?
I had this great idea for a cute mermaid dress with a crochet top, but after a few rows I could tell it was going to be too wide for the twins. Instead of quitting or redoing it I decided to make the first one for Chloe instead. Next time I will use a slightly smaller hook, but currently the size I needed was the only one I didn’t have! It doesn’t sit on my kid mannequin very well as my niece is still more toddler shaped, but to big to use my toddler mannequin, but you get the idea. I was going to do something more square, but when I found the mermaid fabric I decided that the wavy design would be perfect with it!
It will be a while before I can get action shots as my kids are all smaller in size then her daughter, but it’s something! I plan on making similar ones for the twins soon when I get the smaller hook I need. These style of dresses do take a lot more time to make but are rather inexpensive material wise. I think with the yarn & fabric it probably cost about $6 for the materials.

Can you tell me who the mermaid fabric is by?
Kymy
It was a JoAnn’s Exclusive fabric about 2-3 years ago? You might be able to find it on Etsy or Ebay.
